One Day National level Workshop on “Taming the dust: Minimizing Brake Particulate Matter Emission”
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has organized one day National level workshop on “Taming the dust: Minimizing brake particulate matter emission” held on 22.08.2024 at B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, in Association with SAE Southern section Mahindra Worldcity division. Total 54 participants registered for this workshop including participants from industries, academicians, research scholars and students.
The seminar began with the recitation of Qirath. The Department Head, Dr. A.S.Selvakumar, warmly welcomed the attendees. Our esteemed Vice Chancellor, T.Murugesan, delivered the presidential address. Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean (SMS), offered his felicitations afterward. This was followed by the inaugural address by the Chief Guest, Mr. Prakash Anantha Raman (Vice President – R&D, RNTBC). One of the event coordinator, Dr.M.A.Sai Balaji, proposed the vote of thanks to the attendees.
Guest Lecture on “Equipment Selection in HVAC & Career Opportunities in HVAC and MEP Industries”
A guest lecture on “Equipment Selection in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) & Career Opportunities in HVAC and MEP Industries” was organized by ISHRAE – Department of Mechanical Engineering, BSA Crescent Institute of Science and Technology on 30/08/2024. The presentation was delivered by Mr. R. Krishnasamy, Founder – Arostar Private Ltd, Chennai. 93 students from Mechanical Engineering department were participated and benefitted from this program. The students interacted with the resource person to seek clarification on their inquiries.
Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean School of Mechanical Sciences and Dr. A. S. Selva Kumar, Head of the Department – Mechanical Engineering felicitated the resource person. The guest lecture emphasized on Equipment election in HVAC system and career opportunities in HVAC and MEP industries.
3 days’ National level workshop on “Industry 4.0 – Industrial Design, Visualization & Conceptualization” (07.08.2024 to 09.08.2024)
The industry 4.0 – Industrial Design Visualisation & Conceptualisation” workshop was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering along with MSME (Govt of India) and Equad Engg services Pvt ltd. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean – School of Mechanical Science and A. S. Selva Kumar, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering. Around 25 students from Mechanical Engg, BSAR Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, 8 students from SASTRA Deemed University, Agni College of Technology and SSN College of Engineering participated in the workshop.

Mecha Rush 2024 – A National Level Technical Symposium
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has four professional societies namely Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Indian Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineering (ISHRAE). These societies conduct various events for the benefit of student communities. The Annual Technical Symposium – Mecha Rush 2K24 was conducted on 24.04.2024.
This symposium aimed to unveil the inherent talents of students from various fields, preparing them for both employment and entrepreneurship. Through its events, it sought to boost students creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Mr. M. Venkatramanan, DGM – Sales and Marketing, HL Mando Anand India Limited inaugurated the event and delivered inaugural address. Dr. A. S. Selvakumar, HoD – Mechanical welcomed the gathering and Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean (SMS) felicitated the function. In the inaugural address, Chief Guest – Mr. M. Venkatramanan spoke about the Challenges in the Industry, Expectations from the employer, Future of core industries, and the Impact of AI on the global scenario. Faculty members and students from various institutions attended the function.
Seminar on College to Corporate (17th April, 2024)
The seminar on “College to Corporate” gave an insight about the quality skills required for the students to fulfil the corporate / entrepreneur requirements. The event was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Automobile Engineering in association with SAEISS MWC division.
The following resource persons were participated the event. Mr. R. Govindarajan,Head Product Development- Global Testing and validation, Royal Enfield, Chennai. Divisional members from SAEISS MWC, Chairman – Dr.Baskara Sethupathy, Secretary – Mr. Vijayakumar, Treasurer- Dr..Kirthika, MC member – Dr.Arualanandam. Totally 125 students and faculty members of Mechanical and Automobile Engineering attended and benefitted from the seminar.
Hovercraft Racing Competition
The ASME student Section, Department of Mechanical Engineering, B S Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai hosted an electrifying Hovercraft Racing Student Competition, showcasing the ingenuity and talent of young engineers and enthusiasts, held at Mechanical Sciences Block (Seminar hall III floor) on 27.03.2024, the event brought together students from various departments to compete in a thrilling display of technological innovation and racing prowess. The competition event inaugurated by our Prof. Dr. H Siddhi Jailani/Dean (SMS) and Prof. Dr. A.S. Selvakumar/HoD (Mech).
Seminar on “Latest Trends in Automotive Industry, E-Mobility, Safety and Advanced Materials” on 14th March, 2024
The seminar on “Latest Trends in Automotive Industry, E-Mobility, Safety, and Advanced Materials” brought together students, researchers, and faculty members to discuss and analyze the ongoing advancements and future prospects in the industry is organized by School of Mechanical Sciences in association with SAEINDIA and conducted on 14.3.2024.
The event aimed to shed light on the transformative changes happening within the automotive landscape, particularly focusing on the areas of electric mobility, safety enhancements, and the integration of advanced materials. Totally 62 students and faculty members have attended and benefitted from the seminar.
Mr. Prasad Arun Kumar, Divisional Manager, from Stellantis Ltd, Chennai was the resource person for the seminar program. The commencement of the workshop is presided over by the esteemed Dean, Dr H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean, School of Mechanical Sciences, Dr. A.S. Selvakumar, (H.O.D – Mechanical ) and Dr. P.D. Jeyakumar, ( H.O.D- Automobile) The seminar coordinators. M. A. Sai Balaji, Assoc. Prof./Mech and Dr. C. K. Arvinda Pandian, AP (Senior Grade)/Auto have delivered the speaker (resource person) introduction speech and welcome address respectively. The Dean has presented the memento to the resource person. The resource person has given a wonderful presentation about the e-mobility advancements, safety innovations, ADAS, integration of advanced composite materials etc. Finally, the seminar concluded with the vote of thanks by the seminar coordinator.
One Day National Seminar on “High-Performance Materials and Its Characterization for Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Applications” on November 15th, 2023
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has organized one day National Seminar on “High-Performance Materials and Its Characterization for Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Applications” ” held on 15.11.2023 at B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, in Association with the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), Chennai Branch. A total of 48 students registered for this seminar including external and internal participants. The seminar started with a recitation of Qirath. The seminar coordinator, Dr. K. Mohamed Bak, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, and Dr. A. S. Selvakumar, HoD – Mechanical and Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean (SMS), offered their felicitations thereafter.
3 days’ workshop “Industry 4.0 – Industrial Design, Visualization & Conceptualization” (06.11.2023 to 08.11.2023)
The Industry 4.0 – Industrial Design Visualisation & Conceptualisation” workshop was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering along with MSME (Govt of India) and Equad Engg services Pvt ltd. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean – School of Mechanical Sciences,Dr. A. S. Selva Kumar, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering and Prof Dr.S.Rasool Mohideen, Mechanical Engineering . Around 16 students from Mechanical, Auto and Aero department participated in the workshop.
Inauguration of Technical Societies for the Academic Year 2023-24
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has four professional societies namely Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Indian Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineering (ISHRAE). These societies are conducting various events for the benefit of students. The inauguration of these societies for the academic year 2023-24 was conducted on 03rd November – 2023 at the Seminar Hall, Convention centre.
Mr. S. Paramasivam, DGM – Technical Expert, Vehicle Division, Renault Nissan Business Centre India Private Ltd was the guest of the occasion. Dr. A. S. Selvakumar, HoD – Mechanical welcomed the gathering. Dr. N. Thajuddin, Pro-Vice Chancellor, presided the function and released the News Bulletin of the department. Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean (SMS) felicitated the function. In the inaugural address, Chief Guest – Mr. S. Paramasivam spoke about the creativity, innovation, sensors, and e-mobility. Faculty members, and students attended the function.
Seminar on “Data Centre and High Performance Computing for Engineering Applications” (26.10.2023)
“Data Center and High-Performance Computing for Engineering Applications” seminar was organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering and Data Center, BSACIST, along with CSI (Chennai Chapter). The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr. N. Raja Hussain, Registrar, BSACIST, Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean – School of Mechanical Sciences, Dr. A. S. Selva Kumar, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering and Dr.N.Ayyanathan, Director, Data Center. Around 70 students and 20 faculty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering participated in the workshop. The seminar started with recitation of Qirath. The seminar coordinator, Mr. S. Loganathan, Assistant Professor, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, and Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean (SMS), Dr. A. S. Selvakumar, HoD – Mechanical offered their felicitations thereafter.
Workshop on Engineering Design – An activity based approach
The workshop on “Engineering Design” was organized by the Society of Mechanical Engineers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 11th September 2023. Dr. A. Arockia Julias, Associate Professor and Mr. M. Balasrinivasan, Assistant Professor Sr. Gr. Conducted this workshop. Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Professor & Dean and Dr. A.S. Selvakumar, Professor & Head inaugurated the workshop.
The objective of the workshop is to provide hands on training to the faculty members handling the Engineering Design course for undergraduate students. Design thinking concept and the project assignments associated with that are introduced in the first session. Hands on Training on making paper prototypes, creating simple App using MIT App inventor and toy car design are covered in the workshop. About 15 faculty members from various departments actively participated in this workshop and benefitted. Certificates were given to all the participants at the end of the day.

Technical Symposium – CONFLUENCE 2023
A National Level Technical Symposium – CONFLUENCE 2023 was conducted on 12.04.2023 by the department of Mechanical Engineering. The program was jointly organized by societies of Mechanical engineering namely Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME), Indian Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The symposium was conducted with the objective of bringing out the inherent abilities of students from all disciplines and enable them to ready for employment and entrepreneurship. The events were conducted to enhance the creativity of students, team work, problem solving and thinking abilities. Mr. Kasiraja Thanga Pandian, Senior Manager, Visteon, Chennai inaugurated the event and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. N. Raja Hussain, Registrar, graced the occasion with presidential address. Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Dean – School of Mechanical Sciences felicitated the event with his address. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. A.S. Selvakumar, Head of the department, Mechanical Engineering. The faculty members of the department and students attended the function.
“Drone Simulation and Analysis in ANSYS”
On 03rd of April 2023, ASME student chapter conducted an event on “Drone Simulation and Analysis in ANSYS” in our department seminar hall. The whole event was hosted by R. Thirumurugan/II year ASME Secretary. The event started with Qirath (prayer) pronounced by Mohammed Fazil. The welcome address was presented by Sundarakrishnan member ASME followed by chief guest felicitation by Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani Prof & DEAN School of Mechanical Sciences and Dr. A. S. Selvakumar Prof & HoD.
Drones have become a popular tool for a variety of applications, including surveillance, mapping, agriculture, and delivery. However, designing and testing drones can be expensive and time-consuming. This is where simulation software like ANSYS comes in handy. ANSYS is a powerful simulation tool that can help engineers and designers create accurate models of drone components and systems, analyze their performance, and optimize them for maximum efficiency. To demonstrate the capabilities of ANSYS in drone simulation and analysis, we invited a team of experts Mr. Deepesh Kumar Singh, Mr. Ganeshvel Rajavel (ARK Infosolutions Pvt Ltd., Chennai) and Mr. Ramaiah Chidambaram (CIIC, BSACIST) to present their work. The team consisted of mechanical engineers and aerospace specialists who have used ANSYS to design and test drones for various applications.
Seminar on Safety Awareness
A seminar on Safety Awareness was conducted on 09.02.2023. It was jointly organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The chief guest Mr Sureshkumar K DGM – Corporate Management – EHS Mando Automotive India Pvt Ltd Chennai, delivered the seminar. The medium of instruction for this workshop was Tamil and English.
Safety awareness is a collective commitment from employees toward promoting safe work environments. The presence of safety awareness promotes healthier workplace culture among employees towards managing hazards. Workplaces without safety awareness training are exposed to several hazards that could stunt productivity.
Value Added Courses on “Industrial Robotics and Artificial Intelligence” on 8th February 2023
AICTE sponsored ATAL FDP on 3D Printing in Industry 4.0 (05.12.2022 to 16.12.2022)
The FDP on 3D Printing in Industry 4.0 was sponsored by AICTE through the ATAL scheme. An amount of Rs 3 Lakhs was sanctioned for this program. The workshop was organized by the school of Mechanical sciences. The FDP was conducted in blended Mode. Online sessions were conducted in the evening from 7 to 9.30 PM during the first week using Zoom platform. Physical session were conducted in the campus during the second week.
The resource persons identified are experts in the field from eminent institutions like IIT, IIITDM, CSIR-CLRI, VIT, SRM, Crescent and Industries like TVS Sensing Solutions, Einel Technologies and Monotech systems. The participants registered for the FDP in the ATAL portal. 50 participants from more than 100 enrolled were shortlisted and approved to attend the FDP. The FDP was successfully completed by 29 participants who attended minimum 80 % of the sessions and score more than 70 % marks in the continuous comprehensive assessment conducted as per AICTE guideline. E-certificates were issued for these participants through AICTE ATAL portal.
RC Car Competition
The “RC Car Competition” was organized by the Society of Mechanical Engineers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 28th November 2022. Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Professor and Head of the department welcomed the participants and appreciated the efforts taken by the team. Dr. A. S. Selvakumar, Dean i/c, School of Mechanical Sciences inaugurated the competition. The competition was coordinated by the faculty in-charge Dr. A. Arockia Julias, Assistant Professor Sr. Gr. and the student coordinators Mr. Mohammed Suhail S, Mr. Ajmeer Shan M, Mr. Mohammed Asif and other members of the society. The symposium was funded by the Society of Mechanical Engineers.
The objective of the competition is to inspire students in building electromechanical products and participate in various events conducted in nearby institutions. This shall make them active and involved in the academic and co-curricular activities. About 9 teams comprising of 18 students from Mechanical Engineering department and other departments of the school of Mechanical Science participated in this competition. Faculty members and supporting staff of the department monitored the events and selected the winners. Cash prize and certificates were given for winners and runners. Appreciation certificates were also issues for the fantastic student coordinators who put lot of efforts in preparing and conducting the event. The competition was successfully conducted for the benefit of the students.
Guest Lecture series on “Nano structured thermoelectric materials for energy harvesting” on 18.11.2022
On 18th of November 2022, ASME student chapter conducted a guest lecture series on “Nano structured thermoelectric materials for energy harvesting” in our department seminar hall. The whole event was hosted by R. Thirumurugan/III year ASME Member. The event started with Qirath (prayer) pronounced by S. Mohammed Asif. The welcome address was presented by Rohan. S/Joint secretary ASME followed by chief guest felicitation by HoD and DEAN School of Mechanical Sciences.
The chief guest Dr. S. Kumaran, Professor NIT Trichy, in his lecture, introduced various nanomaterials, and then briefed us about the thermoelectric materials which can be used for harnessing energy using the heat generated by the products that we use daily.
Workshop on “How to Build your RC Car”
The workshop on “Build your RC Car” was organized by the Society of Mechanical Engineers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering on 10th November 2022. The workshop was coordinated by the faculty in charge Dr. A. Arockia Julias, Assistant Professor Sr. Gr. and the student coordinators Mr. Mohammed Suhail S, Mr. Ajmeer Shan M, Mr. Mohammed Asif and other members of the society.
The objective of the workshop is to provide awareness to the undergraduate students on the various types of RC cars, the components and mechanism used to develop it. The participants registered were assembled in the evening after class and explained the guidelines to be followed, working principles, circuits connections required maneuverability requirements, battery capacity and remote control systems etc. They were also informed about the RC competitions conducted by various institutions and the benefits of participating in such events. The student coordinators motivated the participants by telling their success stories in RC carb competitions.
Exhibition on “Pneumatic system and Automation using FESTO Mobile Expotainer” on 27th September 2022
The exhibition on “Pneumatic system and Automation using FESTO Mobile Expotainer” was organized by the Society of Mechanical Engineers, Department of Mechanical Engineering on 27.09.2022. The exhibition was coordinated by Dr. S. Jeavudeen.
The mobile vehicle of FESTO that exhibit the various pneumatic components and systems of FESTO was brought to our campus. The expo offered awareness for the undergraduate students on the various types of pneumatic components used in the industry to develop automatic systems. It also featured a variety of Dynamic and Static displays with an emphasis on fast and easy ways of understanding the latest product applications of Pneumatic technology in Industrial Automation. Demonstration on the automation of pick and place functions, machine vision systems that identify
components, automatic mixing of ingredients for pharma applications and many other industrial applications attracted the students. Working principle of the components used in these systems was also explained. A batch of maximum 15 members was allowed inside the vehicle to visit in each slot of 15 minutes. Students from Mechanical Engineering and other branches showed interested and waited in queue and visited the vehicle. Students got benefitted and gave very good feedback.

A guest lecture on Air Conditioning System Overview – Types & Trends was organized by ISHRAE – Department of Mechanical Engineering, BSA Crescent Institute of Science and Technology. The presentation was delivered by Mr. S. Subramania Raja, Enmac Systems Pvt. Ltd, Chennai. 22 students from the Mechanical Engineering department and faculty members participated in the Guest lecture. Dr. S. Rasool Mohideen, Dean School of Mechanical sciences and Dr. H. Siddi Jailani, Head of the Department felicitated the speaker and his team.
The guest lecture emphasized on overview of types and recent developments in air conditioning system.

MECHA RUSH 2022 – A Technical Symposium
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been organizing technical symposium every year to develop the leadership and team working skills of the students. The competition also inspires students to be active and involved in the academic and cocurricular activities. The symposium was funded by the institution. Sponsorships were also received from companies collaborated with us.
This year’s symposium MECHA RUSH 2022 was conducted on 26th May 2022. Chief Guest for the function, Mr. D. Janarthanan, Sr. Engg. Manager, L&T Ltd. attended the inaugural function and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. N. Raja Hussain, Additional Registrar delivered the presidential address. Dr. H. Siddhi Jailani, Professor and Head of the department welcomed the gathering. Dr. S. Rasool Mohideen, Dean, School of Mechanical Sciences felicitated. The symposium was coordinated by Dr. A Arockia Julias, Senior Assistant Professor of the Department. The student co-ordinators for the symposium and faculties of the department organized the events.

The second online workshop on “Design now workshop using Autodesk Fusion 360” was organized by ICT ACADEMY and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, BSAR Crescent Institute of Science and Technology. The presentation was delivered by Mr. Mohammed Shereef, Deputy Manager – Design Team, Training & Research, ICT Academy, Chennai. Around 22 students from the Mechanical Engineering department and faculty members participated in the workshop.

The online workshop on “Design now workshop using Autodesk Fusion 360” was organized by ICT ACADEMY and Department of Mechanical Engineering, BSAR Crescent Institute of Science and Technology. The presentation was delivered by Mr. Mohammed Shereef, Deputy Manager – Design Team, Training & Research and Mr.Murugavel.V, Relationship Manager, ICT academy, Chennai.
Around 70 students from Mechanical, department, and faculty members participated in the workshop. The workshop emphasized on the importance of CONVERGENCE OF DESIGN, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING INTO A PRODUCT INNOVATION PLANNING.

Inauguration of Mechanical Societies for Academic year 2021-22 Department of Mechanical Engineering has four professional societies namely Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Indian Society for Heating Refrigeration and Air conditioning Engineering (ISHRAE). The inauguration of societies for the academic year 2021-22 was conducted on 29th September 2021. Mr. E. National Seminar on Lean Sigma for Career Excellence
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a one day national seminar on “Lean Sigma For Career Excellence” for the UG and PG, in MBA Block, MBA seminar hall on 2nd March 2020. Prof. Dr. Gopal Sivakumar, CEO (Lean Six Sigma) & Principal Consultant (MSME – Government of India) had conducted the seminar and training. Dr. S.Rasool Mohideen, Dean (SMS) and Dr. H.Siddhi Jailani, HOD, felicitated the speaker. In his lecture Dr.Gopal Sivakumar and Mr. Prabhakaran discussed the Quality, overview of lean six sigma and role of Lean Six Sigma in current Industries.
Further, he explained how Lean Six Sigma certified students will be able to impress the employers with their project outcomes and can effortlessly convert internship into a job opportunity.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a two days workshop on “CAD/CAE” for the faculty members of the School of Mechanical Sciences during 6th and 7th May 2019. Dr. P D Jeyakumar, Associate Professor and Dr. A. Arockia Julias, Assistant Professor (Sr. Gr.) of the department coordinated the program. We thank the Management, Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Director Hr and Dean School of Mechanical sciences for providing all the support to conduct the program successfully.

Inter Collegiate Technical Symposium Techaura 2019 was conducted on 14th March 2019. Mr. JIBY ISAAC, Head R&D, from Apollo Tyres ltd. attended the valedictory function and delivered keynote address. Dr. A Azad, Registrar presides and gave an inspiring speech for the winners. Dr. S.Rasool Mohideen, Dean Mechanical Sciences felicitated the function. The symposium was coordinated by Dr. A Arockia Julias, Assistant Professor (Senior) of Mechanical Department. The student co-ordinators for the societiy Mr. Mohamed Rayyan, Mr. Rohit Kumar, Mr.Abhishek and Mr. V. Karthikeyan organized the events.
Student Training Programme
The Student Training Programme was held on February 02, 2019 at Seminar Hall I, Convention Centre. Mr. Seshadrinathan, President welcomed the Speakers and explained about the association activities. Mr. Mohamed Abubakker Gazali, Executive Committee Member, delivered a lecture on “Gap Analysis (What Industry wants, Whatstudents aspire, What students possess) and Campus to Corporate” and Mr. Syed Ismail Buhari, Executive Committee Member, delivered a lecture on “Campus to Corporate – 4.0” and “Future Employability”.
Mr. Syed Ismail Buhari also brought his HR friends from various industries and chaired the panel talk on “Current Industry Expectation and Gaps”. Mr. Elayasekaraja, Head-HR, Indus Teqsite Pvt. Ltd. (Data Patterns), Ms.Yogachitra, Head –HR & Admn, NTC Group, Ms. TN. Brinda, Corporate & Institutional Trainer shared the current trends.
This student training programme was organized for the Pre final year students from all the departments and it was well appreciated by the students.

One Day Workshop on MS-Office (Word & Excel) was organized by Department of Mechanical engineering” on 20.12.2018. Around 17 technical staff members from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Polymer Engineering were participated in the workshop and benefitted. Mr. R. Tamilselvan, Sel. Gr. Technician, explained in detail about the various options and menus in word and excel. The participants were well interacted with him and the class conducted by him was very good and useful
A guest lecture on “Principles of Clutch Design – Recent Trends”
A guest lecture by Mr. E. Venkatachalam, Manager, Clutch Design, Valeo India Private Ltd., on “Principles of Clutch Design – Recent Trends” was organized by the department of mechanical engineering on 29.10.2018.
The resource person gave a real-time exposer and share his experience on the challenges and solutions in clutch design for different applications from twowheelers to high torque quarry vehicles. The students interacted with the resource person in designing clutches for SAE Baja Vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, and farm equipment and their challenges. The students and staff enjoyed the session with continuous interaction with the resource person and thanked him.

The department of Mechanical Engineering organized a one day workshop on “Building your own 3D Printer” sponsored by ASME on the 29th of October 2018. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S. Rasool Mohideen, Professor and Dean (School of Mechanical Sciences). The coordinators Dr. M. Thirumurugan, Associate Professor, faculty advisor ASME and Mr. K. Saran Kumar, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering conducted the workshop. The workshop focused on imparting the background knowledge required to build a 3D printer on their own from CAD modeling to Electrical circuitry. An hands on training session was conducted in the afternoon in association with M/s Monotech Ltd. The workshop attracted more than 25 student participants from various departments.

One Day Workshop on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) on 12th September 2018
The department of Mechanical Engineering and The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering jointly organized a one day workshop on MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) on the 12th of September 2018. Dr. E. Paul Braineard, Ph.D. (IIT Madras) Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sricity, Chittoor was invited as a guest speaker. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. S. Rasool Mohideen, Professor and Dean (School of Mechanical Sciences) and Dr. S. Kaja Mohideen, Professor and Dean (School of Electrical and Communication Sciences). The convener Dr. Y. Mohamed Shuaib, HOD EEE felicitated the speaker, the workshop coordinators, Mr. K. Saran Kumar, Assistant Professor, Mechanical and Mr. A. Paramasivam, Assistant Professor, EEE gave a brief over view about the workshop and a short note about the speaker.
The speaker briefed on MEMS fabrication techniques during the forenoon session and elaborated on micro pumps as a case study in the afternoon session. The workshop attracted more than 40 student participants both internal and external.
“SAEISS Tractor Design Competition – 2018” on June 21-23, 2018
Team CRESTRAC – A group of B.S.Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology Mechanical Engineering students have participated in Tractor Design Challenge, organized by SAE INDIA southern section. It is an all India level competition. They have secured second place for durability.

One Day Workshop On “Engine Dismantling And Assembly”
An one day workshop titled “Engine Dismantling and Assembling” was organized under ASME with 27 participants on 25-04-2018. The workshop was targeted mainly undergraduate students of I, II and III year students. The objective of the workshop was to understand and realize the components/parts present in the two wheeler vehicle for the beginners. In the workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Prince Arockia Doss, Professor/ Mechanical Engg. And further the sessions are started with the power point presentations detailed the components/parts present in the TVS Scooty. Our students Mr. Dharanivel A.S.A, Mr. Adithya R, Mr. Ajay Krishna R were given the presentation. And the session started with dismantling and assembling of TVS scooty. And the participants were asked to participate in dismantling and each and every single parts of vehicle were explained to the participants. The doubts raised by the participants were cleared with answers. Finally the participants are requested to assemble the vehicle. The real in hands training motivated the participants and the expressed their happiness in the closing ceremony of the workshop.
