Cres-Festo 21 (26.06.2021)

The online programme Cres-festo 21 was organised by the Department of English, exclusively for the higher secondary school students, on 26.06.2021. A total of 7 events were flawlessly organized. More than 40 school students from all over Tamil Nadu took part in Cres Festo. The faculty members of the Department of English were the judges for all the events. The winners and runners of each individual event were awarded Rs. 500 and Rs. 300 respectively.

Virtual workshop on concrete mix design (26th June 2021)

Department of Civil Engineering, School of Infrastructure have organized a “Virtual workshop on concrete mix design” on 26th June 2021 at 10.00 a.m. First session on “Cement” was delivered by Mr.R.Sivaramakrishnan, Technical Manager, JK white Cement and it is followed by the next session on “Concrete mix design” Dr.M.Purushothaman, Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, Annamalai University. Around 25 students from different college participated and got an exposure on concrete mix design.

The Department of Civil Engineering, School of Infrastructure organized a webinar on the topic “Career Advancement for Diploma Students in Civil Engineering” on 17.06.2021. Around 125 polytechnic students from various states participated in this event. The guest speaker Er. K.K. Shanmugavel, Senior Section Engineer, Southern Railways, Ramanathapuram delivered the lecture and shared his experience about various opportunities for diploma holders related to higher studies and job.

Department of Computer Applications, School of Computer, Information and Mathematical Sciences, has organized Online Webinar on “Development with Environment” on 14th June 2021, from 11 am to 12.30 pm via Google Meet. The main objective of this webinar is to create awareness among students about the pollution and environmental degradation. There was good response from the participants with 70 registered participants. Students from different institution shown interest towards this webinar and they have participated.

The Resource Person of the webinar was Ms. Pallavi Rampati, Technical Consultant, Paul – Edu Technology and Management Services, Chennai. Resource person started the session with interesting things about environment. Ms. Pallavi imparted her knowledge on the various initiatives and policies at National and international levels taken in environmental sector. At end of the session, the participants gained knowledge on how to improve the environmental efficiency at global level.

The Department of Information Technology, School of Computer Information and Mathematical Sciences organized an online Webinar on “Smartphone Security” on 27th May 2021 from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm through Google Meet. The Resource Person of the webinar is Dr. S. Sibi Chakkaravarthy, Cyber Security Consultant, Chennai.

A total of 227 participants including students, faculty members from various Institutions and Industry persons registered for the webinar. Out of them 110 participants attended the webinar.

Dr. Sibi discussed about various kinds of mobile phone attacks and the awareness required for securing our Smartphone in the day-to-day activities. Also he demonstrated few smartphone attacks happened recently with real-time incidents. It was very exciting for the participants to have interaction with resource person and cleared their queries. The Office of Alumni Relations in association with the Department of Civil Engineering conducted an Alumni Entrepreneur Webinar through online on 29.04.2021. Around 50+ participants including faculty members attended the programme. The guest speaker our Alumnus Mr. Hasnain Razvi (B.Tech. Civil Engineering 2017 Batch), Director, Tincorr Construction Solutions, Chennai delivered a lecture on “Journey as an Entrepreneur in Civil Engineering Field”, in which he discussed the various projects that were completed during the three years of his entrepreneurship journey, and shared the complexities involved in the initial stage of the start-up. In a nutshell, the webinar gave an excellent perspective to the students in understanding the qualities and skills required for an entrepreneur to succeed in their field, by exemplary work quality and on-time delivery.

Mr. M. Parvez Alam, Vice President – Outreach, PMICC and Chair, PMICC E & C Forum briefed about PMI which is an American nonprofit professional organization for project management with more than 1600 members in the Chennai chapter. Dr.B. Shyam Sundar, Associate Vice President- Academia, Vice Chair – Academic Forum stated that PMI plays an important role in developing standards, research, education, publication and networking-opportunities in local chapters. It also hosts seminars, conferences and training seminars and provide certification for students in project management. Mr. Tony Jacob, PMP and Associate Vice President, E & C Forum in his special address mentioned the role of project Management in Engineering and Construction. Prof. A. Peer Mohamed, Vice Chancellor, presided the function and appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Civil Engineering and wished all success. Dr. A. It was arranged by the course teacher for the benefit of third semester EIE students. The Resource person is Dr. K.Kamalanand, Assistant Professor, Department of Instrumentation Engineering, MIT, Anna University, Chennai 44.

Dr.Sudha Radhika, Assistant Professor discussed about Remote Sensing Based Advanced Damage Detection on Structures in a very simple manner which was easily understandable. She discussed how remote sensing images were used to identify the damages in structures using EEL fish approach, texture wavelet analysis and artificial intelligence. Building damage detection was carried out using drones in her study. She answered the queries asked by the participants.

The Department of Civil Engineering, School of Infrastructure organised AICTE Sponsored Short Term Training Programme (STTP) – “Disaster mitigation: A shift from disaster management towards disaster preparedness” (Phase -3) through online from 16.11.2020 to 21.11.2020. Around 70 participants including Faculty members, working professionals and students across different parts of India and abroad participated in this STTP. Speakers from reputed Academic Institutions like IIT Palakad, IIT Hyderabad, Anna University and also from industries delivered lectures on various aspects of disaster management. Some of the important topics such as Impact of Urbanization on flooding, Intelligent Transportation systems for Disaster management early warning system of IMD, Soil Nailing Techniques to encounter land slide Hazards in Hilly area,, climate change and sustainability were addressed by the experts.


Awareness Session on iOS App Development on 9th Nov 2020

BSAU Apple iOS Application Development Centre organized an online awareness session on “iOS App Development” on 9th Nov 2020 from 2.30 pm to 3.45 pm through Zoom online meeting. This session is organized to create awareness among the students of first year B.Tech., BCA and B.Sc (CS) joined in the academic year 2020-21.

The Resource Persons of the awareness session are Mr. V. Bala Subramani, ICT Solution Specialist – Education & Apple Solution Expert – Education from Datalogics, Chennai and Mr. U.S. Madhan, Co-Founder, Move-Up Learning Solution, Chennai & Product Technology Consultant.

A total of 45 students from various branches of BSACIST attended the awareness session.

The awareness session provided the students with basic idea on iOS App Development. This will help them to learn and develop iOS Apps / Games using Swift Programming Language and enhance their career in Mobile App Development. The resource persons also gave a clear picture on the worldwide growth of iOS App Development and demand for iOS App Developers.

The students interacted with the resource persons frequently and cleared their doubts regarding iOS App Development. The participants also appreciated the resource persons and the useful information shared by them during the session in their feedback.

During this phase 16 lecture sessions were organised. Some of the important topics such as role of Role of remote sensing and GIS in Disaster management, Transportation Planning and Management for Disasters, Activities of National Disaster Management Authority, Watershed management In Tsunami affected areas using GIS, Disaster due to Nuclear radiation etc were handled by the experts.

The Department of Civil Engineering, School of Infrastructure organised AICTE Sponsored Short Term Training Programme (STTP) – “Disaster mitigation: A shift from disaster management towards disaster preparedness” (Phase -1) through online from 07.09.2020 to 12.09.2020. The event was inaugurated by Dr.K.Palanivelu, Professor & Director, Centre for Climate Change and Disaster Management, College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. He delivered the keynote address on “Climate change adaptation: Challenges”.

Dr.A.Peer Mohamed, Pro-Vice chancellor, presided over the event and Dr.A.Azad, Registrar, offered felicitations. Several speakers from reputed Academic Institutions and industries delivered lectures on various aspects of Disaster management including, earthquake disaster mitigation, landslide risk management, flood management, Tsunami warning and management etc. Around 80 participants including Faculty members, working professionals and students across different parts of India and abroad benefitted from this STTP.

Er. M. Ravikumar, Deputy General Manager (Structural Division), L & T Infrastructure Development Projects Limited, Chennai delivered the lecture for the faculty members and IV-year students of the Department of Civil Engineering.

The School of Computer Information and Mathematical Sciences organized an online Webinar on “Career Opportunities in Linux and Open Source Software” in association with M/s Advantage Pro, Chennai, on 25th Aug 2020 from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm through Google Meet.

The Resource Person of the webinar is Mr. N. Kathirvel, RHCI, Red Hat Trainer, Advantage Pro, Chennai. A total of 189 participants including students and faculty members from various Institutions registered for the webinar. Out of them 91 participants attended the webinar.

The webinar provided the participants with broader view on Linux and Open Source Software to help them shape their career, especially for the students after completing their graduation. The resource person also gave a clear picture and demonstrated the use of Open Source Software. Also he discussed about the security of Linux OS compared to the other Operating Systems available in the market.

It was very easy for the participants to understand the necessity of Open Source Software for the current needs. The participants appreciated the resource person and the quality content of the webinar in their feedback.

Department of Computer Applications, School of Computer, Information and Mathematical Sciences has organized Online International Webinar on “Exploring Linux Distribution across Cloud, IoT & Mobile Devices” on 17th August 2020 via Google Meet and YouTube. A total of 165 participants have registered for this event. 163 participants attended this online webinar from various institutions across India. Faculties from different institutions have also participated in this free webinar. This webinar provided the participants with increasing the present knowledge about Linux on various fields. This gave an insight into various job opportunities in the field of Linux like Network Engineer, Hacker, Cyber Security, Andriod / iOS Developer, DevOps, Linux Admin etc. This has motivated the participants get certification courses like coursera, SkillShare, Khan Academy, Bloc, Alison, MeMRisE etc.
