Department of Computer Science and Engineering
Welcome to the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the B.S.Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology.
Our exciting, rich and dynamic field has been pushing the boundaries of what is possible through the discovery of new ideas and the building of innovative systems and tools that have changed our lives. Our field has been pushing the envelope of almost all other disciplines, which use computing as a fundamental means for discovery. Computer science and engineering offers exciting, intellectually challenging, and rapidly growing career opportunities. It is the heart of where the action is: whether this means intelligent game playing, mobile applications, smart robots, cloud computing, data security, social networks, or bioinformatics.
The Department of Computer Science & Engineering has been in existence since 1990 (30 Years of Excellence), Given the high demand for Computer Science professionals from the industry, the department offers four undergraduate programs namely B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering, B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, B.Tech. CSE (Cyber Security), and B.Tech. CSE (Internet of Things). The department also offers post-graduate degree programme. The department also offers Doctoral Degree Program in the field of Computer Science and Engineering. The undergraduate and postgraduate programs of Department of Computer Science & Engineering are approved by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi.
The department aims to provide students with a strong foundational background in Computer Science, whilst enabling them to integrate their knowledge with other disciplines in order to make new and innovative discoveries. Most graduates of the Computer Science Program step directly into career positions in multinational companies while some choose to continue their education in masters. Our students have always been budding entrepreneurs and many have startups established while pursuing their degrees.

Teaching Learning Strategies
- Outcome based Learning
- Problem Based Learning
- Project Based Learning
- Activity Based Learning
- Peer Learning
Outcome based learning
For every course, outcome is defined. The teaching learning process carried out to attain the outcome. Various assessment schemes such as continuous assessment test, semester end examinations are mapped with the outcome and implemented to measure the attainment of outcome. By the end of the course, each student should have achieved goal
Problem Based Learning
Courses based on solving problems manually are considered for problem based learning. It is a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving a problem through algorithm or rules. It can be practiced during tutorial classes.
#Example 1: CSB3101 Algorithm Design and Analysis
Solving problems like & using
- Stable matching problem
- Greedy algorithm – Dijkstra’s algorithm , Kruskal algorithm
- Dynamic programming
#Example 2 : CSB3212 Introduction to Compiler Construction
Tutorial sessions are carried out to solving the problems like
- Shift reduce Parsing algorithm
- Predictive parsing algorithm
- LR Parsing algorithm
- Canonical LR Parsing algorithm
- LALR parsing algorithm.
Project Based Learning
Students identify problems, analysis and implement the solution for the problem through tools or programming language. It is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. Project can be implemented as a individual or as a team.
#Example 1: CSBY44 SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS
Highlights of Project Based Learning:
- Exploratory – gathering knowledge through articles, magazines and research papers
- Constructive – hands on learning using tools and application design.
- Expressional – presentations and discussion
I HANDS ON SESSION WORK – GRAPHING SOCIAL NETWORK
Students analyze their social networks using graph theory. They gather data on their own social relationships, either from Facebook interactions or the interactions they have throughout the course of a day, recording it in Microsoft Excel and using Cytoscape (a free, downloadable application) to generate social network graphs that visually illustrate the key persons (nodes) and connections between them (edges). The nodes in the Cytoscape graphs are color-coded and sized according to the importance of the node (in this activity, nodes are people in students’ social networks). After the analysis, the graphs are further examined to see what can be learned from the visual representation. Students gain practice with graph theory vocabulary, including node, edge, betweeness centrality and degree on interaction, and learn about a range of engineering applications of graph theory.
II PROPOSED TO WORK WITH ANY TWO VISUALIZATION /SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS (FACEBOOK/TWITTER/INSTAGRAM) TOOLS (OF STUDENTS CHOICE)
III PROJECTS : MINI PROJECT – using Social network analysis tool
#Example 2: CSB2217 Microprocessor and Microcontroller Lab
SOLUTION – PROJECT BASED LEARNING
- Operation of Instructions studied through Simple Application
- Projects
- Forming A Team To
- Identify The Real Time Problem In Any Field
- Back Ground Study
- Components Collection
- Project Design
- Testing Through Simulators
- Implementation Of Project
- Discussion
For Project Based Learning, students utilized the technology to implement the problem for finding the solution.
Technology used
- Tools
- Simulators
- Hardware devices
#Sample 1:

YEAR OF STUDY : II YEAR /IV SEMESTER/2015
COURSE CODE & NAME: CSB2217 MICROPROCESSOR AND MICROCONTROLLER LAB
STAFF NAME : SUBHASHINI.S
TECHNOLOGY CARRIED OUT :
Usage of hardware devices such as Ardino/ARM Microcontroller/8051 etc to implement application for a real time problem. Also used Simulator to design the circuit and test the working before implementation.
EFFECT :
- Able to find remembering all the instruction sets of 8085/8086 microprocessors and 8051 microcontrollers.
- Aware of importance for microprocessor/microcontroller to solve real time problem in any field of application.
Activity Based Learning
Activity based Learning is a teaching methodology through various activities like quiz, brain storming, puzzle solving, poster design etc. This makes the students to get more interest on the subject and involves more lively. Most of the courses use this learning pedagogy for teaching.
#Example 1: CSBY44 SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS
I ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING
- POSTER DESIGN
- ARTICLE WRITING
- CASE STUDY WORK
- PUZZLE SOLVING
Peer Learning
Peer learning is an educational practice in which students interact with other students to attain educational goals. Outstanding students coach the slow learners to have better understanding on the subject. Course is identified through the performance of the students in the assessment and difficult topics are discussed during extra class hours.
#For Example : CSB3101 Algorithm analysis and design – identified by the student.
