About the CAS University Recognition Program

The CAS University Recognition Program recognizes academic institutions around the world who demonstrate outstanding commitment to preparing future general insurance actuaries through their educational offerings. The Program offers three levels of recognition for universities; Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Universities partnering in this program will receive a number of benefits that serve to expand their educational programs and prepare their students for successful actuarial careers.

“We are thrilled to honor universities through the CAS University Recognition Programs,” said Victor Carter-Bey, DM, CEO of the Casualty actuarial Society “We encourage all universities committed to preparing general insurance actuaries to apply for the level that aligns with their programs.”

The M.Sc. Actuarial Science program at B. S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST) was established in 2011 under the Department of Mathematics and Actuarial Science. The program was founded with the vision of developing skilled actuarial professionals equipped to meet the growing demands of the insurance, finance, and risk management sectors, both in India and globally.

Currently, the program is supported by a team of nine qualified faculty members, specializing in actuarial mathematics, statistics, finance, and data analytics. The department also engages visiting experts from industry and professional actuarial bodies to enhance practical exposure and professional readiness.

The students are trained in core areas such as probability, financial mathematics, life contingencies, statistical modelling, and risk theory, with a strong emphasis on practical applications and analytical reasoning. The curriculum is aligned with the educational pathways of international professional bodies such as the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). The department continuously updates its syllabus to reflect evolving industry trends, including predictive analytics, enterprise risk management, and data-driven decision-making.

In 2025, the program earned Silver Level Recognition under the CAS University Recognition Program, meeting key academic and engagement criteria, including:

  • Integration of CAS-aligned course content covering the learning objectives of CAS Exams 1, 2, and MAS-I.
  • Incorporation of CAS case studies, research papers, and educational modules into assignments and coursework.
  • Active student and faculty participation through CAS Student Central and Academic Central memberships.
  • A structured evaluation system combining 80% written examinations and 20% assignment-based assessments linked to CAS materials.
  • Introduction of a CAS-aligned summer internship carrying 2 academic credits to enhance practical exposure.

This recognition underscores the department’s commitment to advancing global actuarial education and fostering collaboration with CAS.
