CLUB ACTIVITIES OF BSACIST

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST) contribution to Environmental Sustainability
(via student-led Rotaract culture)

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST) actively strengthens environmental sustainability by creating a strong ecosystem where students are empowered to lead. The institute supports a student-exclusive Rotaract club, giving learners the space to plan, organize, and execute sustainability-focused initiatives by students, ensuring that eco-awareness becomes part of campus identity.

A.  Carrying Hands

The Carrying Hands project, held on September 28, 2024, was a community service initiative by the Rotaract Club of Crescent aimed at supporting local roadside vendors in Vandalur and Guduvancheri. The project involved distributing gloves and customized menu cards to vendors at small shops such as sugarcane stalls, fruit shops, and food outlets. The purpose was to help these vendors attract customers by clearly displaying available items and to promote hygiene through the use of gloves. A total of 18 shops were assisted during the event. The initiative was well received, creating a positive impact and strengthening community ties.

B. Soul Palette

On November 7, 2024, Soul Pallet brought light and joy to children battling cancer at St. Jude Indian Child Care Centre. Organized by several Rotaract Clubs, the project provided 36 children with coloring kits, encouraging artistic expression and emotional healing. Through creativity, the event aimed to distract them from their daily challenges and uplift their spirits. Children shared their drawings with pride, creating touching moments of connection and resilience. The initiative showcased the therapeutic power of art and emphasized the clubs’ commitment to spreading hope and happiness. It left a lasting impact on both participants and volunteers alike.

C.   Clean Start

The Clean Start project, conducted on March 9, 2025, under the Vandalur Bridge, was a community service initiative focused on improving hygiene among street vendors. Organized by the Rotaract Club of Crescent, the project aimed to promote personal cleanliness by distributing hygiene kits containing essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo. This effort encouraged vendors to adopt healthier daily habits while raising awareness about the importance of sanitation. By supporting better self-care practices, the project contributed to the well-being of 40 beneficiaries and helped foster a cleaner, healthier public environment in the community.

D.  Words Of Wellness
(a mental health support to Students)

“Words of Wellness” was conducted on March 11, 2025, at BSA Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, focusing on environmental protection and community service. The event promoted awareness of disease prevention by encouraging students to share their thoughts through handwritten quotes on sticky notes. These notes were displayed on a board, creating a collective space for inspiration and reflection. The initiative emphasized the importance of health and preventive care in everyday life while fostering a sense of community. A total of 120 participants contributed over three hours, making the project an engaging and educational experience for all involved.

E.  Physical and Mental Health Awareness

The objective of the Physical and Mental Awareness project conducted by the Rotaract Club of Crescent through Google Meet by the Speaker Dr.R PARIMALA was to educate and sensitize participants about the importance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being. The session aimed to promote a holistic approach to health by addressing key topics such as regular exercise, proper nutrition, stress management, and emotional resilience. By providing expert insights and practical tips, the project sought to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to lead healthier, more balanced lives. Additionally, the interactive nature of the online session encouraged participants to actively engage, ask questions, and share their experiences, thereby fostering a supportive environment for open discussions on wellness.

F.  Kattral Karuvi

The Kattral Karuvi project, conducted on 12 March 2025 under the Community Service Avenue, aimed to support kindergarten students by providing free essential stationery kits. This initiative addressed the lack of access to basic educational materials among children from underprivileged backgrounds. By distributing these supplies, the project promoted equal learning opportunities and fostered a supportive, engaging environment for young learners to grow academically and creatively. It was led by Project Chairperson Rtr. Deepak, alongside key Rotaract members, including   Rtr. Gowtham, Rtr. MD Sharuk Khan, Rtr. Nayeem Asfan, and Rtr. Mahalakshmi during World Rotaract Week.

G.  Care Hub

The CareHub project, held on March 12, 2025, was a community service initiative organized to support auto drivers and recognize their essential role in public transportation. The project involved to enhance their well-being. Beyond this, CareHub aimed to empower drivers by exploring future initiatives such as skill development programs, financial literacy workshops, and health check-ups. These efforts were designed to promote both personal and professional growth. Overall, the project demonstrated gratitude for their service while striving to positively impact their lives and improve their working conditions.

H.  Penniram

Penniram, held on March 10, 2025, at Vandaloor Bus Stop, promoted menstrual hygiene and environmental sustainability. The project involved distributing organic, biodegradable sanitary pads to 20 women, aiming to reduce the health and environmental hazards of conventional products. Informative sessions were held to educate recipients on the benefits of natural alternatives. The initiative encouraged women to adopt safer, eco-friendly menstrual practices, supporting both personal health and the planet. By addressing menstrual stigma and sustainability, Penniram empowered women and advocated for responsible consumption. It was a vital step toward ensuring dignified healthcare and environmental awareness in underserved communities.

I.  Newborn Nest

Held on 13th March 2025 at Tambaram Government Hospital, the Newborn Nest project focused on maternal and child health by distributing essential newborn care kits to 30 babies from financially underprivileged families. Organized by the Rotaract Club of Crescent, the initiative aimed to provide hygiene and health essentials to ensure a healthy start for newborns. The project not only supported new mothers but also emphasized the importance of early care. It reflected the club’s dedication to community service, particularly in supporting vulnerable groups at critical stages of life.

J.   Mannin Mugavari

On 10th March 2025, the Mannin Mugavari project addressed plastic pollution through a cleanup and awareness drive at Vandalur Bus Stand. Spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Crescent, the initiative engaged volunteers in collecting and segregating plastic waste and educating the public about the dangers of plastic pollution. It emphasized the importance of sustainable waste management and encouraged behavioral change towards reducing single- use plastics. With 100 beneficiaries impacted, the project promoted environmental responsibility and aimed to foster long-term, eco-friendly habits within the community.

K.  Ecoquest

ECOQUEST was a quiz competition held on March 10, 2025, at BSA Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, focused on promoting environmental awareness and sustainable living. Organized under the avenue of Community Service, the event engaged 49 participants with questions on ecology, climate change, and green practices. It aimed to inspire environmentally conscious thinking and foster a culture of sustainability among students. The initiative is aligned to build an eco-aware campus. The event lasted for two hours and was led by Rtr. Jeslin Shulamite J, along with the support of the World Rotaract Week team and club leadership.

L. Ecoswap

The Eco Swap – Rethinking Plastic: A Sustainable Perspective project, organized by the Rotaract Club of Crescent, was an initiative aimed at promoting environmental consciousness and encouraging sustainable living practices. The project focused on raising awareness about the adverse effects of plastic pollution and the urgent need to adopt eco-friendly alternatives. Through engaging activities, informative sessions, and community interaction, the event encouraged participants to reflect on their daily plastic usage and make mindful choices that contribute to a greener future. The highlight of the project was the session conducted by Dr.Girija Bharat, managing director (MU Gamma consultant pvt Ltd). By fostering a culture of sustainability, the project aimed to inspire long-term behavioural change and collective responsibility towards protecting our planet.

M. Peace Knots

Peace Knot, conducted on March 11, 2025, at Crescent Campus, was a simple yet profound initiative promoting love, gratitude, and emotional connection. Participants received a bracelet to pass on to someone special, symbolizing appreciation and meaningful bonds. The gesture encouraged reflection and sharing, and recipients were invited to capture the moment with a photo. The project aimed to create a ripple of kindness and unity through a chain of heartfelt exchanges. Each bracelet carried a story, making Peace Knot a memorable experience of spreading joy. It was a celebration of relationships and emotional expression in a fast-paced world.
