Access to mental health support for both staff and students
B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology recognizes the critical importance of mental health and provides comprehensive support services for both students and staff.
Counselling Objectives and Responsibilities
The Crescent Counseling Center aims to address the growing mental health concerns among students that can affect academic performance and overall well-being. Key objectives include:
• Assessment and Guidance: Evaluate students’ mental health and provide guidance while fostering mutual understanding between students and faculty.
• Support for Personal Challenges: Assist students in planning and addressing their challenges, enhancing decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Building Self-Esteem: Help students recognize their strengths and develop social skills to navigate personal and academic pressures.
1. Offering individual and group counselling to students dealing with various issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, academic concerns, and personal crises.
2. Maintaining confidentiality and privacy of client information to create a safe and trusted environment.
3. Offering immediate support and intervention in crisis situations, including cases of self-harm, suicidal ideation, or acute psychological distress.
4. Working with campus security and local health services to ensure the safety and well-being of students in emergencies.
5. Organizing workshops and seminars on topics like stress management, time management, coping strategies, and self-care to promote mental health awareness.
6. Fostering life skills development to enhance students’ emotional resilience and personal growth.
7. Conducting mental health awareness campaigns to reduce the stigma around mental illness and encourage students to seek help when needed.
8. Referring students to specialized mental health professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists) when necessary for further treatment or medication management.
9. Offering consultation services to faculty and staff regarding student behavior, classroom dynamics, and how to support students experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties.
10. Providing faculty and staff with strategies for maintaining their own mental health and well-being.

Mental Health Support Services
The counseling body consists of qualified professionals experienced in mental and behavioral health. Services include:
• Awareness Initiatives: Increase student awareness of mental health issues and available support services.
• Screenings and Workshops: Conduct periodic mental health screenings and workshops on relevant topics.
• Individual Counseling: Provide face-to-face counseling and therapy as needed, with referrals to psychiatrists when necessary.
• Career Guidance: Offer career counseling and regular follow-ups to monitor student progress.
Psychological Intervention and Counseling Consent Form
The Crescent Counseling Centre is a licensed facility staffed by experienced psychologists specializing in various psychological diagnoses, assessments, and therapeutic counseling processes. We value our relationships with students and clients, believing that these connections are essential to the healing process. Recognizing that each individual is unique, we focus on a wellness model that empowers clients by emphasizing personalized approaches rather than generic treatment procedures.
Client Rights
Clients have the right to:
• Ask questions about the therapy process and expected outcomes.
• Decline specific therapeutic techniques proposed by the therapist.
• Cease therapy at any time without repercussions and return whenever they choose.
• Review the records maintained by the therapist.
• Expect confidentiality: All records and information will be kept strictly confidential and shared only with prior written consent, except in emergencies where information may be disclosed to relevant authorities.
Clients may raise concerns or discuss issues with their therapist whenever necessary.

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology recognizes mental health as essential to student and staff wellbeing and provides structured support services for both groups. The consolidated mental health support report (2023–2025) records counselling activities across individual and group formats, along with counselling-led awareness and wellbeing programs. All counselling data is handled under ethical guidelines, with confidentiality protected, and is used with consent for educational case studies and research.

- An awareness session on “Hygiene and mental health” has been conducted for girls students at KBA women’s hostel 4.11.2024.
- Orientation session has been conducted for Commerce and Public policy students on stress management and coping mechanisms on 4.2.2025.
- Organised a Two Days International conference on “Innovations for sustainable wellbeing: Empowering today’s youth” on Feb 12 and 13/ 2025
- Group sessions were conducted for B.A.Public policy final year students on Higher education and Personal values on 16.3.25.
- Orientation session was conducted for all B.Tech freshers along with the refresher courses on the importance of adolescents mental health and prevention in july 2025.
- Conducted One Day National seminar on MAT to MEDAL-Yoga and Sports Psychology along with Dept of Physical education at BSACIST on 27.6.2025
- Conducted “Suicide Prevention and Drug abuse and addiction awareness” session on the account of International Mental health Day on 9.10.2025
- Around 220 individual students, 28 teaching faculties, 12 Non-teaching staff, research scholars and have taken psychological support from the start of the year (individual sessions and group sessions). And nearly 40 of them are in regular follow up. (Individual details are not given for confidentiality purposes and it is documented at the counselling centre).
- Students those require regular therapy sessions have been informed to the parents/ the care givers and as a part of the sessions many parents are also taking sessions occasionally. Those who are in need of treatment and those who are already in Psychiatric treatment are referred to the psychiatrist outside for the continuation of treatment and academics (details are documented separately for confidentiality purposes)
- One Residential Female Counsellor has been appointed from the management exclusively for students those who are residing at BSACIST hostel to ensure students mental state is taken care.
- All students, faculty members and staffs who are taking counselling support are counselled under ethical guidelines and counselling/therapy protocols.
- The data which are collected with consent from the students (hiding the identities) are used for educational case study purposes, research purposes and to design psychological tools. 6 such research papers have been published in International peer reviewed journals, Conference proceedings and Web of science journals.
Mental Health Support for Both Staff and Students Education Initiatives
In 2025, 78 students attended individual counselling and 200 participated in group counselling sessions covering topics such as stress management, suicide prevention, substance abuse awareness, cyber harassment, women empowerment, relationship dynamics, and mental health. For staff support, 13 faculty members / research scholars / non-teaching staff attended individual counselling in 2025. Around 220 individual students and 28 faculty members sought psychological support over the year, with nearly 40 receiving regular follow-ups. As part of the support system, a residential female counsellor was appointed exclusively for hostel residents to ensure their mental wellbeing is consistently addressed.
The institute also conducted multiple mental health and wellbeing initiatives, including an awareness session on “Hygiene and mental health” (girls students at KBA Women’s Hostel, 04.11.2024), an orientation session on stress management and coping mechanisms (04.02.2025), and a two-day international conference titled “Innovations for sustainable wellbeing: Empowering today’s youth” (Feb 12–13, 2025). Additional programs included sessions on suicide prevention and drug abuse/addiction awareness (International Mental Health Day, 09.10.2025), plus workshops such as “VANITY” (online via Google Meet, 01.12.2024, 60 beneficiaries) focusing on self-love, emotional strength, gratitude practices, boundary setting, and building self-esteem. The report notes that counselling-related consenting data contributed to six published research papers in international peer-reviewed journals and related proceedings.
VANITY
Held on December 1, 2024, Vanity was an online wellness workshop conducted via Google Meet, aimed at encouraging self-love, mental clarity, and emotional strength among participants. The session addressed topics like gratitude practices, boundary setting,
Overcoming self-doubt, and building self-esteem. A reflective mirror exercise was included to help participants internalize positive affirmations. During the Q&A, attendees received practical strategies for managing stress and criticism. The workshop fostered a nurturing space for introspection and promoted the message that embracing oneself is the first step toward resilience and happiness.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
The objective of the Physical and Mental Awareness project conducted by the Rotaract Club of Crescent through Google Meet by the Speaker Dr.R PARIMALA was to educate and sensitize participants about the importance of maintaining both physical and mental well-being. The session aimed to promote a holistic approach to health by addressing key topics such as regular exercise, proper nutrition, stress management, and emotional resilience. By providing expert insights and practical tips, the project sought to equip attendees with the knowledge and tools needed to lead healthier, more balanced lives. Additionally, the interactive nature of the online session encouraged participants to actively engage, ask questions, and share their experiences, thereby fostering a supportive environment for open discussions on wellness.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON APTITUDE & MENTAL ABILITY TRAINING
Date : 3rd September 2024
The Department of Computer Applications, under the School of Computer, Information, and Mathematical Sciences, organized a one-day workshop titled “Aptitude & Mental Ability Training “on September 03, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 4:10 PM at Mechanical Science Block. The workshop featured Dr. G.Shreedevi and Dr.R.Sonia as the resource person.
All the participants actively participated and enjoyed the learning experiences from the speakers. The event emphasized essential problem-solving techniques and efficient mental ability practices to significantly boost their confidence and aptitude skills.

Crescent professional counselling centre conducted a seminar on “Mental health and wellness” for final year Life sciences students of B S Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of science and technology on 22.03.2024. Ms. Muthulakshmi, Student Psychologist BSACIST conducted the sessions focused on the non-traditional way of creating awareness of adolescent’s psychological health, behavioural response and discussions of psychological wound addressal and mindfulness in an interactive way. Mental health importance orientation for School of Life Sciences
Orientation for B.Tech first year students on 24.07.2024. This enlightening session provided students with an in-depth understanding of mental health, underscoring its pivotal role in achieving academic excellence and maintaining personal well-being. Participants were given a detailed overview of the university’s counselling and guidance centre including its comprehensive range of services, strict confidentiality policies, and easy access procedures. By fostering an environment of support and awareness, this orientation aimed to empower students to prioritize their mental health and utilize available resources to confidently navigate university life.
Adolescents mental health education for B.Tech Freshers
Gave a guest lecture on “Importance of the awareness of child abuse and child maltreatment prevention programs” on 11.08.2024 (Sunday) for faculties and BDS students at Thai Moogambikai Dental College, Chennai.
On 25.09.2024 we conducted a special lecture on the topic “Prevention of Suicide among Youths” on the account of World Suicide Prevention Day. Crescent professional counselling centre along with School of Social Sciences & Humanities and NSS of our institute organised this lecture for all first-year students.
Dr. V. Jayanthini M.B.B.S, M.D, D.P.M Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist was invited to deliver the special lecture. The event took place in the Convention Centre, BSACIST at 11.50 am. Dr. Ayub Khan Dawood, Dean SSSH delivered the Welcome address. Presidential address was delivered by Dr. N. Raja Hussain, Registrar BSACIST.
The guest speaker addressed the importance of Adolescence mental health conditions and its risk factors. She made the audience understand its importance with real life incidents. She also addressed the need for peer support, parental and institutional intervention and awareness for effective handling of mental health issues in the current world. Dr. S. Muthulakshmi, Student psychologist BSACIST delivered the Vote of Thanks.
Suicide Prevention Program
Around 60 students, faculties, research scholars and non-teaching staffs have taken psychological support from the start of this year (individual sessions and group sessions).
