Target 2050 – Carbon Reduction
CLIMATE ACTION PLAN (2024-2050) FOR B.S. ABDUR RAHMAN CRESCENT INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

  Goal:
Achieve net-zero Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2050 through phased decarbonisation, aligned with global climate targets.

1.BASELINE EMISSIONS (2025)

  • Scope 1 (Diesel for DG)

    Scope 1=50,715×2.68/1000Scope 1=50,715×2.68/1000

    135.92 tCO2e

  • Scope 2 (Purchased electricity)

    Scope 2=4,273,653×0.7082/1000Scope 2=4,273,653×0.7082/1000

    3,026.60 tCO2e

    Scope 1 + Scope 2

    3,162.52 tCO2e

    2. PHASED REDUCTION ROADMAP

PhaseTimelineKey ActionsTarget Reduction
Phase 12024–2030– Replace DG sets with biodiesel hybrids + battery storage.20% reduction (685 tCOe)
(Short-Term) – Expand solar capacity to 1 MWp (from 650 kWp).
  – Mandate LED lighting + BLDC fans campus-wide.
Phase 22031–2040– Transition to 100% renewable electricity (PPAs + onsite solar/wind).50% reduction (1,713 tCOe)
(Mid-Term) – Electrify transport (e-buses, EV charging stations).
  – Install smart energy meters for real-time monitoring.
Phase 32041–2050– Achieve net-zero Scope 2 via offsite renewables + carbon credits.100% reduction
(Long-Term) – Offset residual Scope 1 emissions through afforestation projects.

3. KEY PROJECTS

Renewable Energy:
 1. Solar expansion to 2 MWp by 2030, 5 MWp by 2040.
 2. Explore wind energy partnerships  for 24/7 clean power.

Energy Efficiency:
 1. Retrofit all buildings to ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) standards.
2. AI-driven HVAC optimization to cut cooling emissions by 30%.2.

Carbon Offsetting:
1. Plant 5,000 native trees/year on campus (est. 250 tCO₂e/year sequestration).

4. GOVERNANCE & MONITORING

Climate Task Force: Cross-departmental team to track progress biannually.
Transparency: Publish annual Sustainability Report with GHG inventory.
• Funding: Allocate 5% of operational budget to decarbonization projects.
