B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST)s Commitment to SDG 15: Life on Land

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST) has demonstrated a strong commitment which focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, managing forests sustainably, combating desertification, and halting and reversing land degradation and biodiversity loss. The institute has initiated various programs and activities aimed at promoting sustainability and enhancing the health of land ecosystems.

One of the notable initiatives was the massive tree plantation drive conducted by the National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) in celebration of World Environment Day on June 2, 2022. This event saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students, with over 100 saplings planted on campus. The Vice-Chancellor of the University emphasized the importance of biodiversity and urged the community to adopt sustainable practices, such as reducing plastic usage and conserving natural resources. This initiative not only contributed to afforestation but also fostered a sense of responsibility among participants towards environmental stewardship.

In addition to tree planting, BSACIST has engaged in community outreach and education related to sustainable agriculture. On February 24, 2023, N.S.S. volunteers supported local farmers at the Vrisham Organic Farm, where they learned about organic farming practices and assisted in fieldwork. This hands-on experience not only benefited the farmers but also educated students about sustainable agricultural practices and the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Overall, BSACIST’s commitment is reflected in its proactive approach to sustainability through tree plantation drives, community engagement, and educational initiatives. The institute is dedicated to fostering a culture of environmental awareness and action, ensuring the preservation of land ecosystems for future generations.
