C. REPORT ON FACULTY PARTICIPATION IN FDPs AND HUMAN VALUES SESSIONS AT SESSION AT B.S. ABDUR RAHMAN CRESCENT INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (BSACIST) recognizes the importance of instilling ethical values and a holistic perspective in students. In alignment with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) guidelines, faculty members participated in Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) organized by AICTE-designated institutions. These FDPs focused on Universal Human Values (UHV), specifically the UHV-I module, which is integral to the mandatory Student Induction Program (SIP) for all new students.

OBJECTIVES OF UHV-I

The UHV-I module aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of life and one’s role within various contexts—individual, family, society, and nature. The core objectives include:

1. Holistic Perspective: Encouraging students to develop a holistic view of life that encompasses personal aspirations, inter-personal relationships, societal roles, and environmental consciousness.
2. Self-Reflection: Strengthening students’ abilities to reflect on their values, goals, and the challenges they face, thereby fostering personal growth and self-awareness.
3. Confidence and Commitment: Enhancing students’ confidence in their abilities and their commitment to ethical conduct and social responsibility.

IMPLEMENTATION OF UHV-I IN SIP

The UHV-I sessions were structured into several topics, each designed to facilitate self-exploration and dialogue among students. The sessions included:

Introduction and Self-Exploration: The first sessions focused on welcoming students and encouraging them to share their aspirations and concerns, thus laying the groundwork for open communication.
Self-Management: Topics such as self-confidence, peer pressure, and stress management were addressed, helping students understand the importance of maintaining a healthy balance in their lives.
Health and Relationships: Discussions on health issues, healthy lifestyles, and the importance of harmonious relationships were conducted. These sessions emphasized respect, gratitude, and the significance of emotional well-being.
Societal Participation: Students were encouraged to reflect on their roles within society and the natural environment, promoting a sense of responsibility towards community engagement and ecological sustainability.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS (FDPS)

The faculty members who attended the FDPs were trained to effectively deliver the UHV-I content during the SIP. These programs equipped them with the necessary skills and methodologies to facilitate discussions and encourage self-exploration among students. The training emphasized:

1. Explorational Methodology: Faculty were trained in an explorational teaching approach that encourages dialogue rather than traditional lecturing. This method fosters critical thinking and allows students to engage deeply with the material.
2. Holistic Understanding: Faculty were guided on how to present a holistic worldview and its implications for ethical conduct and human interactions.
3. Student-Centric Engagement: The FDPs focused on strategies for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and experiences.

OUTCOMES AND IMPACT

The integration of UHV-I into the Student Induction Program, facilitated by faculty who underwent specialized training, has had a positive impact on students. Feedback from participants indicated:

• Increased awareness of personal values and aspirations.
• Improved self-reflection and critical thinking skills.
• Enhanced understanding of the importance of ethical conduct in personal and professional life.
