CRESCENTSAT

With Dr.S.Kaja Mohideen as Project Director, the Crescent Students (Team CRESCENTSAT) in Collaboration with Space Kidz India had developed the prototype model of “CRESCENTSAT” satellite and it was launched on 24th February, 2019 at Siruseri, Chennai. The prototype model was launched using Helium gas Balloon and it traveled a vertical height of 30 kilometers in the Space.

After due modifications and feature enhancement, actual CRESCENTSAT satellite will be launched using launching vehicle of International Space Agency in due course.

ISRO Scientific Secretary Mr.Umamaheshwaran was the Chief Guest of the occasion and launched CRESCENTSAT on 24.02.2019

The prototype model of CRESCENT SAT recorded various atmospheric parameters and performed live transmission of data.

The unique feature of this CRESCENTSAT is

  1. It is a Reusable satellite
  2. Incorporation of HAM radio & LoRa facility
  3. Live data (Atmospheric parameters) and Image transmission from space
  4. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (Remote Sensing) to identify the presence of green vegetation and plant health monitoring
  5. Biological study in space by utilizing microbes and germinating seeds

Research Project Executed

  • Deputy Coordinator for the AICTE-MODROBS Project “ Evaluation of Fiber Optic Modulation, Multiplexing and Transmission Characteristics”, carried out during 2001-2003, for which the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, has sanctioned an amount of Rs.10 lakhs. The Fiber optics Lab of ECE department has been modernized with state of art facilities by using this fund.

Extension

As the Convenor of Innovation Centre organized the following events

  • The Inno Idea Contest was conducted on 17.02.17 to showcase the budding talents of our students. 12 innovative ideas which are of social relevance were selected for in-house funding by the innovation centre to convert the ideas into prototype models. These projects are under progress.
  • An Inno-Contest 2016 was organized by the Innovation centre on 27.04.16. 30 batches of student teams displayed their innovative ideas. Best ideas were awarded cash price worth Rs.20,000/-.
